Yukon Energy has invited several major engineering companies to submit bids for work on the proposed Carmacks-Stewart Transmission Line project.

The scope of the work includes designing a plan for connecting the Mayo-Dawson grid to the Whitehorse-Aishihik-Faro transmission system. It also includes preliminary design work for the Carmacks-Stewart line, and an option for a final design of Phase 1, which would include a line from Carmacks to Pelly Crossing as well as a spur line to the Minto mine.

This past summer, Yukon Energy sought out interested companies through an Expression of Interest notice in a national newspaper. About a dozen firms responded and Yukon Energy has narrowed that list down to five highly qualified companies that have now been invited to bid on the work.

Yukon Energy hopes to award the contract by mid- to late-March. The approximate value of the contract is $500,000.
