Yukon Energy owns and maintains hundreds of kilometres of power lines, which carry electricity from our generating stations to customers throughout much of the territory. Poles and lines are designed to meet Canadian electrical code requirements and must be maintained to ensure Yukoners enjoy a safe and reliable source of electricity. Some of the power lines cross private property, First Nations land, or land owned by a municipality or the Crown.
Under regulations approved by the Yukon Utilities Board, the property owners are obligated to allow Yukon Energy employees to access their property to make repairs and do maintenance work on the poles and line.
Yukon Energy works with property owners to have easement agreements signed. The agreements outline the legal obligations of both Yukon Energy and the property owners. Once signed they give certainty to both parties.
