It's always a good idea to conserve electricity. Check out these basic tips below to conserve electricity in your own home.
- If you heat with electricity, turn down your thermostat a few degrees.
- Reduce the amount of hot water you are using by taking shorter showers or washing your clothes with cold water.
- Air dry your clothes instead of using the dryer.
- Turn off all lights you're not using.
- Unplug all unused electronics, like laptop and phone chargers.
- Use the smallest appliance to get the job done. Use your microwave and toaster oven for small cooking tasks.
On cold winter days, we typically see a spike in electricity usage between 7 am and 10 am, and between 4 pm and 8 pm. It is during these times that we need to use more diesel and LNG to meet electricity demand. To help reduce peak electricity demand, you can:
- Schedule your dishwasher to run outside of peak times.
- Use a block heater timer for warming your vehicle - you only need two hours before starting your car to do its job.
- Sign up for Peak Smart Home.
