Earlier today at the Whitehorse Rapids Generating Station, a fire was detected inside one of the rental diesel generators. The fire was quickly extinguished by Yukon Energy staff, and the Whitehorse Fire Department has confirmed that the site is safe. There were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is not yet known and is currently under review.
This marks the second fire involving rental diesel units at the Whitehorse Rapids site in the past two months. Yukon Energy is working closely with its contractor—the owner of the rental diesel units—to conduct a thorough root cause analysis. Both rental units involved in the fires will be shipped out in the coming weeks for disassembly and a thorough inspection.
