Yukon Energy has successfully reconnected Faro to the rest of the grid. Our team has been working hard to fix the equipment failure at the Takhini substation that caused the recent outage in Faro in September 2024. This equipment is required to operate our transmission line from Whitehorse to Carmacks to Faro.
Over the past few years, we've been investing in our aging electricity infrastructure—some of which is nearly 70 years old. Prioritizing these improvements remains essential for reliability, in addition to securing critical spares and strengthening our mutual aid agreements for any future outages.
Although Faro is now reconnected to the grid, we are finishing up some related work and are running the diesel generators in Faro to reinforce the reliability of the system.
