Are you installing an electric furnace in your home? Adding a heated greenhouse? Building an addition onto your house? Adding a metered suite to your home?
If you’re increasing your electricity use, you may need to upgrade your electrical service. This process can take weeks or even months, so contact Yukon Energy as early as possible.
This helps us provide an accurate cost estimate and timeline. We recommend downloading and saving the form before filling it out. This lets you add or change information later without re-entering everything.
We’ll visit your property to check if our existing system can handle your increased electricity use. If upgrades are needed, we'll let you know.
If Yukon Energy needs to upgrade its equipment, we’ll determine if you’ll need to cover any costs. Typically:
If your property doesn’t have an easement for the existing service connection (common with older properties), we’ll ask you to sign one (add in this link to the easement brochure PDF) to give Yukon Energy access to overhead wiring.
Your electrician will upgrade your home’s wiring and obtain the required electrical permits.
Once your electrical work is complete and approved by the Electrical Inspector, you notify Yukon Energy, and we’ll work with you and your electrician to connect the upgraded service.
If you’re demolishing your home or need to permanently disconnect your electrical service, Yukon Energy can remove the wires and meters, and terminate service to your house. To get started, contact us at 867-993-5565 or email billing@yec.yk.ca.
If you need to reconnect or move your electrical service, call us at 867-993-5565 or email us at billing@yec.yk.ca.
