Yukon Energy is investigating the cause of this morning’s power outage.
The outage affected parts of Whitehorse and most communities north of the city. Power went out at just before 10 a.m. and Yukon Energy and ATCO Electric Yukon worked together to restore electricity to all customers except the Minto mine by just after 11 a.m. Some areas were restored before 11 a.m.
We suspect the outage was caused by a tree on one of Yukon Energy's lines, but won’t be able to confirm that until we can do an aerial patrol later this week. Winds are too high to safely do the patrol today.
