We have submitted a proposal to the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Board (YESAB) for the installation of up to three natural gas generators in Whitehorse. The units would replace two aging diesel generators that are being retired. Just as the two diesel units have done, the natural gas generators would provide back-up power during times when sufficient renewable power is not available.
YESAB is currently doing an adequacy review; in other words, it is looking to ensure we have provided sufficient information for it to begin the effects assessment of the project. Once it is through the adequacy phase the proposal will be opened up for public comment.
You can find more information about our Whitehorse diesel/natural gas conversion project, along with our YESAB proposal, on our website.
