Yukon Energy staff, along with first responders, had an opportunity earlier this month to test our emergency plan for the new LNG site.
An emergency tabletop exercise was set up that involved several of our employees, the local RCMP, Whitehorse Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services, and the Yukon government's Emergency Measures Organization.
The scenario presented to us was that a pipe on one of Yukon Energy's LNG storage tanks had failed. LNG started to pour into the containment trenches and began to collect into the containment pit. An alarm was triggered within our control centre. How would we respond?
While everyone handled the situation well, this provided an excellent opportunity to identify any gaps in our plan. We will review our procedures with an eye to making them even better.
