The Opportunity:  Maintenance Mechanic

Permanent, Full-Time bargaining unit position, based out of Whitehorse, Yukon.                                                                                                                            

Compensation: Level 8: $46.83/hr-$55.93/hr PLUS Northern Allowance.

What will you do: As a key member of the Mechanical Maintenance team, you will:

  • Perform Journey-level mechanical, millwright and welding work to install, repair, troubleshoot and maintain a variety of electrical generation and water-control equipment.
  • Carry out mechanical maintenance on hydro, diesel and LNG generating units, including their auxiliary systems and water-conveyance infrastructure, to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation.
  • Support installation of new equipment and the rebuild/refurbishment of existing assets as part of preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Conduct diagnostic testing and root-cause analysis to reduce downtime and improve asset reliability.
  • Complete and maintain accurate documentation of all work (work orders, permits, test results) in accordance with Yukon Energy’s policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • Follow and promote safe work practices and environmental requirements at all times, contributing to continuous improvement of maintenance processes.

What you need to succeed

  • Journey certification as a heavy equipment mechanic, millwright, or welder with several years of previous trade experience, two of which are in a power generation environment.
  • Knowledge of Windows based computer software applications.
  • Certification in WHIMS, TDG, rigging and hoisting, confined space, and fall arrest.
  • Strong client service orientation, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • A proven track record and commitment to safe procedures and encouraging a safe work environment.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills
  • A valid Class-5 driver’s license
  • A valid First Aid certificate.
  • Ability to work in a team and cross-cultural environment.
