Permanent, Full-Time bargaining unit position, based out of Whitehorse, Yukon.

Who we are:  Yukon Energy is the main generator and transmitter of electrical energy in the territory. Our plant facilities are on the Traditional Territory of Yukon First Nations. There are 14 First Nations in the territory, and we are proud to work within these Traditional Territories in all our business operations.

What will you do: Join our Systems Control Centre team as the designated Operator in Charge, overseeing the operation of all transmission, distribution, and generation systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate and manage Yukon Energy’s power grids to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient performance.
  • Monitor and adjust generation and transmission as needed, and forecast system requirements to maintain adequate reserves.
  • Respond efficiently to restore the system following disturbances and outages.
  • Serve as the point of contact for switching procedures and work protection permits on Yukon Energy assets.

What you need to succeed: 

  • Power engineering, or journey electrical/mechanical/power line technician certification and several years related experience.
  • Solid problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong client service orientation with good interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of Windows based software applications.
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license.
  • A valid first aid certificate.
  • Ability to work in a team and diverse cultural environment.

Compensation: Level 8: $45.47- $54.30 per hour plus Northern Allowances.
