Yukon Energy has begun the process necessary to provide electricity to Victoria Gold’s Eagle Gold mine near Mayo. The Corporation and Victoria Gold signed a Letter of Intent on Friday that establishes a framework for any future Power Purchase Agreement. The framework includes elements such as the mine’s power requirements, how that power is to be delivered to the mine, the amount of money to be paid to Yukon Energy for the grid connection and the electricity, and the term of the Power Purchase Agreement.

Victoria Gold has notified Yukon Energy it would like to be connected to the Yukon grid by the summer of 2013, if not sooner using a staged approach. The mine estimates that it will require approximately 100 gigawatt hours of power a year.

Yukon Energy anticipates concluding the PPA with Victoria Gold by sometime this summer, after which time the Corporation will submit it to the Yukon Utilities Board for review.
