Following an investigation, we have learned that it was a raven in one of our Whitehorse-area substations that caused this morning’s power outage. The power went out just before 8 a.m. to several areas of Whitehorse and to the Minto mine. Everyone had their electricity restored by about 10:25, with many customers getting their power back shortly after 9 a.m.

When the power was lost at the McIntyre substation, it caused our largest Whitehorse hydro unit to shut itself down as a way of protecting itself. It is now back online.

As is common practice during outages, we used our diesel generators to restore power before moving the load over to our hydro system.
