Plant Operators – Various Locations and Terms

Our Plant Operators are an integral part of our Mechanical Maintenance team and are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of our electrical generating units – hydro, diesel and gas – and their respective auxiliary equipment. The work involved regular plant checks on generating and peripheral equipment; assisting in system restoration following a system disturbance; support for the LNG facility and providing assistance and support to other staff as required.

This position involves heavy lifting, working at heights and in confined spaces, and working in proximity to high voltage and spinning equipment. You'll be working in an operating plant environment and may be exposed to inclement weather while working outside. Shift work and some travel will be required.

Yukon Energy is the main generator and transmitter of electrical energy in the territory and our operations are on the Tradtional Territories of Yukon's 14 First Nations. We are a renewable company with 94% of our electricity coming from hydro and we were the first northern utility and only the fifth in Canada to receive a Sustainable Electricity CompanyTM designation from the Canadian Electricity Association.

THE LOCATION:

YOU'RE THE IDEAL CANDIDATE IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Education at the Grade 12 level plus some vocational training in light maintenance and operation of heavy equipment and several years of related work experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience with Windows-based computer programs
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • A valid First Aid Certificate
  • Ability to work in a team and cross-cultural environment
