Maintenance Mechanic-Mayo or Dawson

The Opportunity:  Maintenance Mechanic

Permanent, Full-Time bargaining unit position, based out of Dawson, Yukon or Mayo, Yukon.                                                                                                                          

Who we are:  Yukon Energy is the main generator and transmitter of electrical energy in the territory. Our plant facilities are on the Traditional Territory of Yukon First Nations. There are 14 First Nations in the territory, and we are proud to work within these Traditional Territories in all our business operations.

What will you do: Participates as a member of the Mechanical Maintenance team and performs Journey level mechanical/millwright/welding work on the installation, repair, troubleshooting and maintenance of various pieces of electrical generation and water control equipment in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner. This includes mechanical maintenance of hydro, diesel, and LNG units along with their respective auxiliary and water conveyance equipment. All work shall be carried out and properly documented in accordance with Yukon Energy’s policies, guidelines, and procedures.

What you need to succeed: 

  • Journey certification as a heavy equipment mechanic, millwright with several years of previous trade experience, two of which are in a power generation environment.
  • Knowledge of Windows based computer software applications.
  • Certification in WHIMS, TDG, rigging and hoisting, confined space, and fall arrest.
  • Strong client service orientation, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • A proven track record and commitment to safe procedures and encouraging a safe work environment.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills
  • A valid Class-5 driver’s license
  • A valid First Aid certificate.
  • Ability to work in a team and cross-cultural environment.

Compensation: Level 8: $45.47-$54.30 per hour plus Northern Allowance and Location Allowance.
