Gladstone Diversion

This proposal involves diverting water from Gladstone Lake into the Aishihik Lake and Canyon Lake systems to produce enough electricity for up to 3,000 homes or up to 550 Yukon businesses. This would be done by building a diversion structure that would move water from the upper reaches of Gladstone Creek into Isaac Creek, which flows into Sekulmun Lake and then into Aishihik Lake.

Yukon Energy is still in the exploratory stages of this concept; much more research is needed before we can determine if it is a viable project. If it is,

Gladstone Diversion would require a YESAB review and an amendment to Yukon Energy’s existing water licence for the Aishihik facility, along with a review by our regulator the Yukon Utilities Board. The proposed project area is within the traditional territory of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations, the Kluane First Nation and the White River First Nation. Yukon Energy is currently involved in discussions with the First Nations about the concept.
