Stewart-Keno City Transmission Project

The Yukon government, through the Yukon Development Corporation, is providing Yukon Energy with $5.3 million to plan for improvements to the transmission infrastructure in the Central Yukon between Stewart Crossing and Keno City.

This money will result in a shovel-ready construction project by the spring of 2017. Additional money will be needed to do the actual construction.

The section of the transmission line between Mayo and Keno City is more than 60 years old and must be replaced. As well, the entire line between Stewart Crossing and Keno City must be upgraded so that it can serve larger loads than is currently possible.

Benefits of replacing the old sections and upgrading the entire line include:

  • improved reliability for customers in the region; and
  • having infrastructure in place for the continued economic development of the territory.
