Yukon Energy will donate a van and $10,000 in cash to a food bank that will open its doors in Whitehorse next year. The energy corporation made the announcement this morning during the kickoff to Poverty and Homelessness Action Week.

“Yukon Energy feels strongly that we have an obligation to give back to the people and communities we serve,” Yukon Energy spokesperson Janet Patterson said. “More and more, we are turning our focus to helping those with the most need. That’s why, when we heard about plans to establish a food bank in the territory, we knew this was a project we wanted to be a part of.”

“The generosity of Yukon Energy Corporation in helping to significantly ‘kick start’ the implementation of the future Whitehorse food bank has been remarkable,” said Ross Findlater, a co-chair of the Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition.

The food bank, once opened, is expected to serve many hundreds of Yukoners.
