Forest Fires Near Our Line

Over the week-end, a forest fire in the Little Salmon area of the Central Yukon forced Yukon Energy to de-energize our transmission line between Carmacks and Faro. By late on Friday afternoon, the fire had reached within half a kilometre of the line.  As a safety precaution, we cut power to the line and provided Faro residents with electricity using diesel generators located in the community.  Drury Creek residents, who also normally are supplied with hydro power via the Faro line, were serviced using a portable back-up diesel unit.

Grid power was restored just after one o'clock on Saturday morning. However we are continuing to monitor the situation closely and if necessary, we will de-energize the line again and Faro and Drury Creek residents will once more be serviced with diesel-generated electricity.
