A float plane that flew into Yukon Energy’s power lines near its Mayo plant caused an outage in Dawson City on Friday night. The plane was flying near the Wareham dam in poor visibility, and one of the aircraft's wings clipped three lines that are used to transmit power to Dawson City.

While the pilot was able to land the plane safely, the incident resulted in residents of Dawson losing power for up to two hours, until the back-up diesel units could be started up. A second outage on Saturday morning was the result of one of the diesel units overheating.

Dawson will continue to be fed by diesel until repairs can be made to the downed Mayo lines later this week.
